The Island Garden

The Island Garden is 750 square feet and is started, tended to and harvested by the children. Our Toddler, Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten friends start by germinating seeds inside their classroom every spring. The seeds are brought out to the garden and planted by the children in their garden beds. The children observe the changes that take place over time and work hands-on to care for their plants. Gathering and caring for the fruits, vegetables, herbs and wildflowers, is such a rewarding learning experience. The children take their findings home to their families or enjoy their freshly picked snacks at school. Children of all age groups can experience the joy that comes from spending time in The Island Garden. The children reenact farmers markets, enjoy in scavenger hunts, incorporate math and science skills, fine and gross motor, as well as gain social and emotional support. The benefits of The Island Garden are essential and limitless.
